The genealogies which our archives hold in binders tend to be substantial genealogies compiled by one person or a particular family, and which are too large to be held conveniently in file folders.

The George S. Brown genealogies are also held in a set of 6 binders in our archives. These genealogies were compiled by George S. Brown and published in the Yarmouth Herald newspaper between Nov. 1896 and July 1909. There are 111 numbered G. S. Brown genealogies.

These genealogies are filled with errors, but when used intelligently can be a starting point for beginning research on a family.

George S. Brown also published a history of YarmouthCounty in 1888 entitled Yarmouth, N.S.: a Sequel to Campbell’s History. This history contains additional genealogies not found in the 111 cited above. The calibre in the case of Tusket Loyalist families is very poor but again, used intelligently, can be a useful starting point.

Most importantly, and this is often overlooked with Brown, he was the first YarmouthCounty writer/historian to publish any genealogies on Acadian families. The G.S.
