Series C: Financial records. — 1910-1948 (predominant 1910-1947). — 26 cm of textual records.

This series contains the main financial records of the Town of Wedgeport. The position of Treasurer was an important one for the Town. He was responsible for receiving all moneys payable to and payable by the Town. Receipts and invoices were issued and Town employees’ wages were paid by him as well. He also kept the accounts of the Town in ledgers and journals documenting incoming sources of money and expenditures of the Town. The records are arranged in five sub-series and include:

  • Banking Records
  • General Bills and Receipts

Sub-series 1: Treasurer’s Account Books, Ledgers and Reports. — 1910-1947. — 15 cm of textual records.

Sub-series contains the financial account books and ledgers recording the Town’s expenditures and revenue. Ledger for the period 1910-1919 lists receipts in addition to expenditures, while all other ledgers record only expenditures. Ledger dated 1944-1947 is presented in a much different format being divided in 45 sections.

Sub-series consists of two files including Treasurer’s account books and ledgers (1910-1947); and annual reports to the Department of Municipal Affairs (1935-1938, 1940-1946).

Sub-series 2: Auditor’s Financial Statements and related material. — 1928-1934, 1936-1947. — 5 cm of textual records.

Sub-series contains audited financial statements for the Town of Wedgeport (1928-1934, 1936-1947) and a file for general correspondence (1928-1947) between the Town Clerk and Nightingale, Hayman & Co., auditors for the Town’s financial records.

Sub-series 3: Bonds and Sinking Funds. — 1922-1946. — 1 cm of textual records.

Sub-series contains correspondence from the Provincial Commissioner of Sinking Funds regarding returns for funds raised and from various investment securities companies involved in sales of bonds to investors.

Sub-series 4: Banking Records. — 1920-1948 (predominant 1920- 1947). — 4 cm of textual records.

Sub-series contains bank notices and correspondence pertaining to loans, promissory notes, borrowing procedures and opening new accounts (1921-1944); and pass books (1920-1922, 1944-1948). There are four pass books (bank books), one of which is for the Town’s school account.

Sub-series 5: General Bills and Receipts. — 1943-1947. — 1 cm of textual records.

Sub-series consists of one folder of bills from the Wedgeport Telephone Co. Ltd. The company was established as early as 1916. Alfred L. LeBlanc, mayor of the Town during the period 1920-1921, was president of the company and Anselme O. Pothier, Town Treasurer from 1910 to 1913, was secretary.
