Series consists of records pertaining to fire prevention in the Municipality of Argyle. Although by-laws pertaining to the prevention of fires existed in the Municipality of Argyle, the only organized fire department within the Municipality was located in Tusket Village. This fire department was known as the Mayflower Engine Company.
The appointment of collectors of fire taxes and officers within the Mayflower Engine Co. by Municipal Council makes it clear that the fire department was considered a branch of the Municipal Government. Most other fire prevention activities found in these records pertain to forest fires and forest fire prevention in the remainder of the Municipality of Argyle.
Sub-series consists of minutes and treasurer’s accounts for the Mayflower Engine Company for the years 1879-1923.
