True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of John Gavel & Ann S. Hatfield who were married on 29 March 1835. Bible published by Case, Tiffany & Co., Hartford, Conn., 1857.

Includes a letter from Virginia (Gavel) Murtha, Strathroy, Ont. concerning the Bible. Copy was donated by her. Her daughter owned the original Bible in 1988. Bible was afterward owned and the family record kept by Forman H. Gavel, son of John & Ann, and his descendants. 9p.

MG1 Ser. E Gavel, #5

True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of Forman H. Gavel & Annie B. Hatfield of Gavelton, N.S. Bible also contains the births and deaths of Annie B. Hatfield’s siblings, and her parents, David Hatfield & Jane H. Hurlbert. The Bible contains only birth and death records, no marriages. Annie (Hatfield) Gavel was born 1862 and died 1933. Also included in the Bible is an undated obituary clipping for Mrs. Sydney Adolphe Gavel. This edition of the Bible included the Old & New Testaments “with Canne’s Marginal References together with the Apocrypha and Concordance…” and was published in New York by L. Stebbins. No publication date could be found anywhere in this Bible.

This copy was obtained from Carol Jacquard, Tusket Falls, N.S. She borrowed it from her mother, who was the owner in 1998. Her mother is Frances (Raynard) Nickerson, also of Tusket Falls, N.S. As far as Frances Nickerson knows this Bible belonged originally to her maternal grandparents Forman & Annie Gavel of Richfield, Digby Co., N.S. and Gavelton, Yar. Co., N.S. before it was passed down to her. 6p. [Access.#M1998:3]

True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of James Gray & Sarah Mangham of North Kemptville, Yar. Co., NS who were married on 23 January 1813. Published by Case, Tiffany and Company of Hartford in 1857.

The bible was loaned to the Archives by Lucille White, RR1 Carleton, NS B0W 1L0. She borrowed the original bible from Lottie Hanf, Forest Glen, Yar. Co., NS. She owned the original Bible in 2000. Lottie Hanf’s mother was Ella Gray, adopted or foster daughter of Joel and Charlotte Gray of North Kemptville, one of the early owners of this bible. Joel Gray was a son of James & Sarah (Mangham) Gray. p. 6 [Access # M2000:13]
