The subsequent generations of this family have lived mainly in Forest Glen, Yar. Co., and Richfield, Digby Co., NS. The Bible was published by J.W. Bradley and Co. of Philadelphia.
Item loaned for copying by Lucille White, RR1, Carleton, NS, who borrowed the original Bible from Lottie Hanf, Forest Glen, NS who owned the Bible in 2000.

Majority of the records in the Bible are not readable, although the one can read the birthdates for most of the children of this couple. 5p.

True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of Cornelius Hatfield (b.1802) & Mary Hatfield (b.1809) of Gavelton, Yar. Co., N.S. This Bible next passed to his daughter, Ann Knowles Hatfield who married William H. Wood of Gavelton, N.S. who in turn passed it on to her daughter, Amy V. (Wood) Dalton. The Bible is owned in 1998 by Amy Dalton’s grandson, Garth Dalton, accountant, of Yarmouth, N.S.
This edition of the Bible was published in Philadelphia, by Jesper Harding in 1846. The Bible was loaned for copying by J. Gordon Wood, Tusket, N.S. who borrowed the Bible for copying from Garth Dalton, Yarmouth, N.S. 3p. [Access.#M1998:8]

A copy of a record of the family of Capt. James Hatfield & Elizabeth Lent of Tusket Falls or Gavelton, Yarmouth Co., NS. This record does not come from a Family Bible directly. It is a large framed printed scroll designed to contain a family record. The information in regard to the printing date for the scroll is found in small print at the bottom. It reads as follow:-PUBLISHED BY JAMES CHURCHILL, TORONTO. Entered according to Act of Parliament of Canada, in the Year 1870, by THOMAS CHURCHILL, in the Office of the Minister of Agriculture. PRINTED BY E.H.C. LIONAIS, MONTREAL. ENGRAVED BY COPP, CLARK & CO.
The majority of the record found on the scroll was probably taken from the original family Bible. The penmanship is very fine and consistent throughout most of the record. One or two entries towards the end appear to be in a different hand. The year 1920 appears to be the last record entered. There are one or two lines in different places on the scroll that have faded and are no longer readable through the glass. We have noted this.
Loaned for copying by Susan Young of Tusket who owns the original. The framed record was previously owned by her mother, the Phyllis (Hatfield) Young, who was given this family item by her Aunt and Uncle Jessie and Lent Hatfield of Tusket. It seems likely that the original owners would have been Lent Hatfield’s parents, Tracy and Laura Hatfield of Tusket, NS. [Access #M2001: ]

This is a true certified copy of the records from the family of Robert & Sarah (White)Hewitt of Tusket Falls, Yar. Co., NS who were married on 27 December 1827. On the inside cover/flyleaf is the record of the family of Jacob & Elizabeth Wood of Tusket, Yar. Co., NS, who were married ca. 1827. This record has been glued into the Bible. This Bible would have passed from Robert & Sarah Hewitt to their daughter, Margaret, who married James Heustis in 1850.
It next passed to their daughter, Frances Caroline Heustis, who married first in 1879, Evelyn Wood. The record glued into the front of the Bible is that of Evelyn Wood’s parents and siblinigs. The Bible next passed to Evelyn & Frances Wood’s son, Adolphus Wood, of Tusket and subsequently to his son, Roy Wood. Ruth Wood, widow of Roy Wood, of Tusket, gave this Bible to J. Gordon Wood of Tusket, Yar. Co., NS, in 1997. The Bible contains records of all of these families as well as records of the father and mother- in-law of the original owner [i.e. Edward & Desire White]. First page of Bible has the following inscription: “September 12 1850/Mr. Robert Hewitt/owner/Bought in the year of our Lord/1843″.

MG1 Ser. E Hurlburt #2
Records from the family Bible of Albert Hurlbert & Maria J. Crosby of Gavelton, NS who were married 1 July 1863. Bible was published at N.Y. by Henry S. Goodspeed & Co., 1873. Bible contains the records of Albert & Maria’s family, and was later kept by their son, Abijah C. Hurlbert & his wife, Faustina Roberts.
Bible was loaned to archives for copying by Brenda (Raynard) d’Eon, West Pubnico, NS. She was given the Bible by her aunt, Avis (Raynard) (Moulaison) Wheeler, Glenwood, NS. The first page of the Bible is inscribed as follows: “Given to Avis R. Moulaison, by Bessie Fielder, August 1957.”
Bessie Fielder was a descendant of the Hurlbert family, as was Avis Moulaison. 9p.
MG1 Ser. E Hurlburt #3
True certified copy of the records from the family Bible of James Hurlbert and Jemima “Mangum” of Kemptville who were married 1825. James Hurlbert was one of the earliest settlers of the village of East Kemptville. The Bible eventually passed to his youngest child, Sarah Jane Hurlbert, who married John T. Gavel in 1865. John T. Gavel eventually passed the Bible to his youngest child, by his second wife, John Alvin Gavel. John Alvin Gavel was married in 1931 to Pearl Roberts of East Kemptville.
They later moved with their family to Ontario. Pearl Gavel of Oshawa, Ontario still owns the original Bible today. The photocopy of the record was obtained by Raymond Blades, Oshawa, Ontario, a nephew of Pearl Gavel.
This edition of the Bible was published by Merriam, Chapin & Co. at Springfield, Mass. in 1848. 7p. [Access.#M1997:12]
